I've been thinking of late about the imminent threats of fascism and totalitarianism, and this quotation by @charliejane pretty much sums it up:

“A society that has to burn witches to hold itself together is a society that has already failed, and just doesn't know it yet.”
― Charlie Jane Anders, All the Birds in the Sky

@kimlockhartga @charliejane
Do you mean in the sense that the fascists by definition are failures and don't know it, because they're held together by purging one minority after another... or that because we've got fascists that we need to burn that the larger "we" have failed and don't know it? Or in some totally different sense?
@nomi @kimlockhartga @charliejane I am confident it is the former and always the fascists who burn witches
@kimlockhartga @charliejane I was thinking the same thing last night as I watched the opening scenes of “Greyhound “ with Tom Hanks. There’s a Catalina Flying Boat escorting a convoy across the Atlantic and that was my father-in-law’s contribution in WW2. With fascism reemerging it is time to review what works/what doesn’t work to prevent the rise of dictators. The U.N. and democracy with oligarchs aren’t working. More unions and money out of politics would help.
@kimlockhartga @charliejane nice I have to agree, with this qoute
@kimlockhartga @charliejane "but the Leftists are the witch hunters!" They say. As a leftist I am not out to get anyone. I just want freedom and prosperity for all. I am in near constant disappointment.
@kimlockhartga That is such a good book. It might be time for me to relisten to the audiobook.
@xinicit Right? One of my all time favorite brilliant books.
