The head of CNN says that all of the backlash over hosting Trump was completely expected but he thinks that the “town hall” served America well.

So if you had any lingering thoughts that CNN is operating in misguided good faith, you can drop those in the bin right now.

I keep seeing people saying that CNN is owned by a person. CNN is owned by Warner Bros/Discovery, which is a huge, publicly traded company. Are there notable far right wingers on the board of Warner Bros/Discovery? Absolutely. But is there a single owner of CNN? Absolutely not. Can the rightward slump of CNN be linked to a single person? Absolutely not. This is weird misinformation.
Oh, and if you’re looking to send a message that you disapprove of the rightward slump of CNN or the town hall or the eight years of both sides-ing Trump, the best way to do that is to disengage from the rest of the Warner Bros/Discovery conglomerate. Cancel the Discovery+/HBOMax/Max subscription. Drop HBO & Cinemax if you still have cable. DC superhero films? Sail the high seas if you need to see them. Here’s their brand list. Act accordingly. https://wbd.com/our-brands/

@amaditalks
This is exactly right.
Cut the revenue off at the source and anywhere else.

@amaditalks or pressure cable and satellite companies to move both CNN and Fox News from the basic tier and move to a subscription one. Currently even if you don't watch them, you are still paying for them. #defundcnn. #defundfoxnews

They don't rely on advertising, they rely on the payments they get from cable/ satellite. Advertising is just the icing on the cake.

@amaditalks

This is how corporate America works. It's been allowed to grow bigger and bigger, making it harder to excise oneself from its influence. Corporate news is news from a corporate perspective, their interests, that is, the interests of those who control the board and hire the staff, and most importantly, their advertisers.

We are going to have to send a message to their advertisers too, if they're willing to go all in on a fascist party or candidate.

What the Biden administration should do is break up these media conglomerates, hobble their control and influence, and enforce antitrust against the big streaming companies.

@amaditalks also, WB Games published the TERF blood libel game
@kiriamaya oooh yeah, and HBO is going to have the new TV series. Nasty.
