The GOP wants to raise the age limit to vote, but not to own an AR-15.

Think about that.

@georgetakei

Fully embracing being unable to win the popular vote.

@georgetakei They want Wild West 2.0 with themselves as the bewhiskered town banker while the illiterate peasants kill each other in the mud
@georgetakei
"Shoot first. Ask questions later, maybe."

@georgetakei *The GOP wants to raise the age limit to vote, but not to own an AR-15.*

The argument was right the first time around: If you're old enough to fight and die for your country, you're old enough to vote.

#VotingRights #GOP #Fascism

@SharonGibson3 @georgetakei At this point 5 year-olds are dying in classes to "protect" the "right" to bear arms. By this metric, we should probably lower the voting age so that children have the opportunity to protect themselves through legislation. The adults clearly aren't doing it.
@georgetakei Stop calling it the GOP. It POT. Party of Trump. Lincoln's GOP died in 2016. Those who call themselves are not GOP. Reagan would be upset and probably would be independent! They have no honor or loyalty to the constitution.
@HolgerFiallo @georgetakei The GOP has been dying since Nixon.
@MaybeMyMonkeysIf you want the true the GOP died when democrats from the south moved to the GOP. Even before when GOP remove protection from African Americans during rebuilding of the south after civil war.
@georgetakei I would prefer it if it was lowered to 16. There's so much in this country that affects minors, they should have some representation.
@SailorDisco @georgetakei I would like that plus I think that Americans should lose their right to vote after they turn seventy since the youth have to live with the decisions governments make for a lot longer.
@GreenFire @georgetakei I wouldn’t go that far. It’s ageist to put an upper cap on voting. Think about who’s post you’re responding under for a moment. Another thing to consider, it’s typically retirees that volunteer their time at polling locations. It would be awful to use their time during an election but not let them participate in one. They live in this country too and are affected by its laws the same as everyone else.
@georgetakei #Republicans are the party promulgating fear. They’ve given up on the promise that is the United States. #VoteBlue #VoteBlue2024
@georgetakei They also want a stronger ID requirement for voting than for buying firearms.
@georgetakei but also lowering age of consent. Just ask Matt Gaetz
@georgetakei Eve of Destruction: “You’re old enough to kill, but not for voting!”
@marcmiyashiro @[email protected]
so much for life decisions
@georgetakei Tells you a lot about what they're actually afraid of...

@georgetakei "Younger Americans are tilting the electoral playing field strongly towards the Democrats and making it very likely that the “over/under” line in American politics will be 45, if not 50, for at least the rest of this decade.

For instance, the results of the 2022 midterm elections surprised many who didn’t believe the
Harvard Institute of Politics (IOP) surveys that showed young people were very enthusiastic about voting in the 2022 midterms...https://www.brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/2023/02/27/younger-voters-are-poised-to-upend-american-politics/

How younger voters will impact elections: Younger voters are poised to upend American politics

Younger voters should be a source of electoral strength for Democrats for some years to come.

Brookings
@georgetakei Some rights are more "god given" than others I guess.
@georgetakei I guess they count on that #GOP members will live longer than others, as it's their members who are the shooters, so raising the voting age you manage to eliminate the opposition, but then there is the issue with the shooter may have no right to vote... 🤔
@georgetakei
They are trying to drop restrictions on child labour as well - will working minors have to pay taxes?
And if so, what happened to "No taxation without representation"?
@georgetakei after yesterday’s town hall and watching trump and his followers. Unfortunately, he will get elected and end the world this time around.
@pank @georgetakei or atleast a second Civil War in that scenario
@georgetakei Anyone, Democrat or Republican, proposing an Amendment is basically showboating. It ain't gonna happen.
@georgetakei The AR-15 has become the new holy bible to the GOP/Nazi party.
@georgetakei But I’ll wager the GOP still wants to take those too young to purchase an AR-15 into the military and give them an AR-15. Too young on the outside, too young on the inside.

@georgetakei

Vote America, vote.

It's a verb, so get verbing.

@georgetakei If they try to raise the age limit, they may be on the receiving end of those AR15s. Gen Z is ready to fight.
@georgetakei ...Maybe that will then mean that they cannot get guns also ??
Had heard that they were trying to drop age to younger...which could mean getting more access to many a thing...NOBODY needs 16 year olds in liquor stores, smoking, allowed to do things that adults have enough trouble doing...
@georgetakei Children and teenagers don't pay politicians, but in the case of the GOP, they could potentially vote for the political enemy.
@georgetakei When I think of the GOP, I throw up in my mouth a little.
@georgetakei GOP motivation always is how best to get elected and who gives a shit about what’s good for the country. Might be true of most politicians but GOP almost brags about it.
@georgetakei people voting doesn't fit their narrative. Kids shooting people does.
@georgetakei And they are lowering the age of adults to marry children, as well as putting 10 year olds to work in factories!
@georgetakei They don't want anyone to vote.
@georgetakei it’s difficult to NOT think about this sh*t, George. ❤️🇺🇸
@georgetakei - the GOP prefers to cast bullets rather than ballots.
@postralphaelite @georgetakei They’re more scared of a child with a vote than child with a gun!!!
Meanwhile everyone else should just be scared!!!!!!!
@georgetakei they know young people don't like their policies. And they want us all to live in a dangerous uncivilized society
@georgetakei ok, I thought about it. That means Republicans want a country ruled by violence, not by votes.
@georgetakei
Their main constituency consists of scared, older white people brainwashed by Faux. They know the new generations are not OK with book bans, LGBTQ discrimination, racism, attacks on women's rights and bigotry. Hence, they are trying to delay the inevitable. Tick-tock... Times are-a-changing.
@Annaeus @georgetakei
The demographics since 1964 make it an existential threat...Murdoch knows this...as does Trump...we gotta make babies!!!
@georgetakei The GOP is coin operated. NRA and gun lobby is paying them to eliminate the barriers to sales, but there is no profit in having young people vote.
@georgetakei I'm more worried about them also wanting to lower the age for working at a coal mine.
@georgetakei how do they plan to repeal 18A?
"Old enough to kill but not for voting, don't believe in war but what's that gun you're toting? #lyrics
@georgetakei Texas just voted to raise the age limit to buy guns
@AutumnAgain @georgetakei
A (Trump appointed?) federal judge just overturned any bill raising the age to 21. (I suspect Texas lawmakers expected this when they voted Yes. Kudos w/o sacrifice. Their cake and eat it too.) https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/what-to-know-about-judges-ruling-on-age-limit-for-young-gun-buyers/
What to know about judge’s ruling on age limit for young gun buyers

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A U.S. judge’s ruling striking down a federal law that bans licensed federal firearms dealers from selling handguns to young adults under 21 is the latest example of how a landmark Supreme Court decision is transforming the legal landscape around firearms. The ruling issued Wednesday by a federal judge in Virginia…

The Hill
@georgetakei Tells you which one of them they think is the risk.

@georgetakei

"The Republican Party believes almost everything on Earth is dangerous, except guns.

Even people with different sexual preferences, or different colored skin, are more threatening."
SearingTruth

@georgetakei A weird thing is, you don't need to convince the audience of this post, and it won't reach people who disagree with you. There has to be a better way to help
