@Jyoti An overlooked classic. No Emmys — outrageous.

@CultureDesk

Because geek culture is always ignored unless it can be milked dry for the mainstream like Big Bang Theory.

:-/

@Jyoti Even with the brilliant stories and acting (and the magnificence of Lee Pace). Though a lot of our tech-y friends who would definitely like it have never heard of it, which suggests maybe it wasn't reaching the right people.

@CultureDesk

THIS IS NOW YOUR MISSION!

spread the gospel of #HaltAndCatchFire to every lil geek out there!

@Jyoti @CultureDesk BBT was truly the worst. It was more what Boomers thought nerds were like instead of reality. Found Community, IT Crowd and Silicon Valley resonated a lot more.

@jbwharris @CultureDesk

Still does my nut in that Linehan is one of the UK's major transphobes. Such a fucking horrible, horrible person.

What annoyed me most about BBT is the things they got WRONG. They're meant to be pedantic geeks but it's obvious the writers were not.

@Jyoti @CultureDesk Huh, I didn’t know that about him. I feel like I kinda enjoyed IT Crowd in a vacuum in a way, after the fact, so knew little about it aside from the main actors

@jbwharris @CultureDesk

Yeah, he's not even an average transphobe, he revels in it. A truly hateful person.

@Jyoti @CultureDesk I once saw a deep dive into BBT about how the show spent a lot of time punching down at nerd culture instead of being part of it. I find my enduring memory was how the President of a previous company kinda made Sheldon the mascot of the development department. He thought the show was hilarious, while at the same time not being a tech nerd himself, he was more of a sales/accounting guy.

@jbwharris @CultureDesk

I have to be careful here as the last time I criticised BBT for being fake geek, I got leapt on by a load of geeks who love it.

Soooo... to each their own!

But def not my cup of tea.
