THIS WAS LABOUR POLICY FROM 2016-2018 YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING CUNT.

YOU DEDICATED TWO FUCKING YEARS TO DESTROYING ANY CHANCE WE HAD OF STOPPING/MITIGATING BREXIT BECAUSE THE GUY IN CHARGE OF LABOUR WAS A THREAT TO YOUR CUSHY FUCKING AFTERLIFE. YOU COULD HAVE FUCKED OFF TO A QUIET RETIREMENT BUT FUCKING NO.

HOW DID WE GET HERE? BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU YOU FUCKING FUCKING *FUCKING* CUNT.

@ukplissken I don’t understand this, Corbyn chased hard brexit and instructed his MPs to trigger article 50? How’s that Campbell’s fault? https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-corbyns-changing-brexit-stance
FactCheck: Corbyn’s changing Brexit stance

Is Labour now the party of remain?

Channel 4 News

@PlanetWilson OK, trying not to get sweary on this subject and it will likely go across several (a lot) of posts.

Corbyn was never "Hard Brexit". He had issues with the EU, especially around the lack of democracy and privatisation of public utilities. (This was why the RMT were pro-Brexit, because on the one thing they were about, they didn't want privatisation.)

But it was never high Corbyn's list of personal priorities.

@PlanetWilson But his ambivalence was a handy stick to beat him with. In the referendum he delivered >70% Remain vote among Labour voters, higher than the SNP and a couple of points behind the Lib Dems. He appears in 2.5x the number of Remain rallies than the actual leader of the official Labour Remain campaign.

(Who you probably can't name. It was this guy.)

@PlanetWilson "He instructed his MPs to trigger Article 50."

No. Theresa May triggered Article 50 with her majority of MPs.

One of Corbyn's flaws which he gets a lot of flak for is he abides by democracy. Leave won the referendum, therefore the UK had to trigger Article 50 at some point. He was never going to do it, but if the Tories did, then he had no choice but to abide by the ref result.

@PlanetWilson (Also voting to leave single market/Customs Union is Brexit. Can't stay in them and not be in the EU, that's the rules.)

When May then called the GE, it wasn't about Brexit any more. Hence it came down to policies and Corbyn's Labour denied her the majority. Almost won it too, if it wasn't for his own Party but that's by the by.

@PlanetWilson Corbyn always had the position of the softest possible Brexit - abide by the referendum result but negotiate for as long as possible to minimise the result. Same way that Sweden voted to adopt the Euro but haven't got around to it for two decades or so.

Hard Brexit was what the ERG and Tory headbangers wanted. Corbyn consistently won votes to prevent it. The problem was the LDs kept fucking about.

@PlanetWilson Tim Farron and Vince Cable not showing up for a crucial vote, for instance. And then blaming Corbyn for it.

Anyway,... Campbell, a man who - if he ever tells you it is sunny outside, I recommend you open a window to check.

The Peoples Vote was set up entirely to damage Labour. The three people who ran it were Campbell, Mandleson and Roland Rudd - Amber Rudds brother. Remember her? Tory Minister at the time.

@ukplissken so we are saying that channel 4’s fact check is not very well checked then?… thanks for the detailed summary

@PlanetWilson Campbell organised that march in London, 750,000 protesting Brexit. And the entire focus was on attacking Corbyn's Labour.

Why was he going for them, and not the Tories who were actually in charge and doing all this?

He was on the telly the next day lamenting how the Gvt ignored three quarters of a million people marching. "How can they do this?" he cried.

@PlanetWilson Well, no Gvt could - or had - ignored those kinds of numbers on the streets up until 2003 when over a million protested the Iraq War.

All the Tories need to do to ignore the PV protest (and did!) was read the manual on how the 2003 Gvt ignored the Iraq War protest. The manual that Alistair Campbell fucking *wrote*. He was the second most important person in Gvt at the time!

@PlanetWilson Finally (and feel free to ignore, I'm getting this off my chest *again*!)

When the 2019 GE was coming, because the Tories were collapsing and Johnson was in charge, everyone knew it was going to be about Brexit again. Tories vs Labour, Farage vs Peoples Vote.

Farage isn't stupid and stood his lot down, knowing he didn't want to split the Leave vote.

@PlanetWilson Labour were now offering what the PV had been asked for - a second referendum. So Campbell and the Peoples Vote, with all their million followers and activists ready to campaign...

Literally disbanded. He actually changed the locks on the headquarters. Right when the chance to Stop Brexit happened... *poof*, gone... scarpered.

@PlanetWilson And then he pops up campaigning for the LDs. In marginals where it was a Labour/Tory race and the LDs were nowhere. You would think Mr Stop Brexit would campaign for the LDs where they had a chance of beating the Tories, but nope. The constituency that contained Grenfell had a Labour MP - he campaigned against her, alongside the LD candidate, Sam Gyimah, who a year earlier had been a Tory Cabinet Minister.

@PlanetWilson Campbell then went into the Jewish community and campaigned on the antisemitism ticket in favour of Euan Blairs ex-girlfriend.

Look up the Michael Howard "Fagin" poster from 2005.

Campbell did that advert. Howard is Jewish. Campbell knew that. He knew what he was doing.

@PlanetWilson I could go on - and I apologise because he absolutely winds me up.

But everything Campbell campaigns for on Brexit ignores that he worked for two years solid on anything but stopping it happening. He would rather have Brexit than have a Labour Gvt under Corbyn and (looks at the country) whatever you think of Corbyn personally, that is unforgivable.

Add in Iraq to that...

@PlanetWilson The greatest self control I ever exerted was being in the same room as Campbell for two hours. Still, I got Jimmy Anderson and Gareth Southgate's autograph, and I had the satisfaction of seeing that he was momentarily pissed off when the pen didn't go his way.

Brexit and a million dead Iraqis, and neither trouble his conscience. Fuck that guy.
