have i said that i really miss kuressaare a lot? the town of kuressaare on saaremaa island, estonia, is a stunning place: being a town with less than 15.000 inhabitants, kuressaare has facilities which you would otherwise usually find in way bigger cities, such as a "poliklinik" (walk-in clinic, with a well-equipped operating room), a theater (with two theater troupes), a yacht harbor, an airport, several schools (including a high school), several kindergartens, a great public library and even a college which is a branch of taltech aka tallinn university of technology and believe me, this college is a lovely place > but what really struck me was something else: kuressaare has a nursery school which has opened just two years ago - that's remarkable
and there is more: i have not counted the spas in kuressaare - too many of them > saaremaa island is often mocked as spaaremaa because of the sheer number of spas
what else: tennis courts, a golf parcours (oh, it's not small!), a soccer stadium, two bigger parks and greenery everywhere, cool bike lanes, many shops with locally produced goods of good quality - this is impressive in a country which is highly depending on imports!
and kuressaare even has a nightlife with several music bars and some great eateries
and if you're fed up with kuressaare and you want to get out, you would just jump on the next bus > no need to pay for it: public transport is free of charge
i have been to many places in my life, but never before have i seen a small town which is indeed vibrant and has something to offer which would make you stay and feel alright
i am sure that i have forgotten to mention some facilities tbh #kuressaare #estonia #saaremaa
