The Metaverse, Zuckerberg's tech obession, is officially dead. ChatGPT killed it.

Mark Zuckerberg spent years trying to make the Metaverse happen, but now it has been replaced by AI and is headed to the tech industry idea graveyard.

@seldo what a disgusting introduction. How can the writer say that metaverse was "born" at
Facebook? And mention Tron and
Second Life but not Snow Crash?

Glad that the "Meta" fad is dying, but getting history wrong is almost as bad as the first thing.

@javierg @seldo
well, in Snow Crash, the metaverse:
- was written by a startup and later taken over by a telco monopolist who later turned out to be the main villain
- was the key vector of a mind virus that almost caused the destruction of civilization

The book literally gives you all the reasons why you should not build metaverse. How could they possibly point the readers to it?

@wolf480pl @seldo
Hum, so you think they didn't mention the book because of its content?

But that requires people to actually read the book in order to get the message.

Perhaps that's asking too much...

@javierg @seldo
I think Facebook had reasons to not mention the book, and the author of the article wasn't aware of the book as a result.

@javierg @seldo my anger over this dissipates when I imagine YT poonig and stickering Zuck's Acura.
