Hmmm. If a company posts for a job, with pay listed at almost half the national average for the position, is that a red flag, or just normal wishful thinking, and they’d negotiate up?

In the specific one I’m looking at, it’s a local company that generally has a good reputation as an employer, so it seems odd.

@N3VEM Personally, I'd recommend to anonymously contact them and ask them if they mean that low wage or if they're just clueless cuz noone's gonna apply at that pay grade.
@N3VEM tonme it’s a giant red flag and if you negotiate up there is zero room for upper growth
@graham ahh - that’s a good catch i hadn’t thought of. Even if they come up, the odds of there ever being meaningful raise after that probably pretty slim.
@N3VEM I’ve been there a few times, it’s the same reason you never accept a counter offer if you’re leaving your job
@N3VEM
Commonly, this was used to attract candidates without a proper visa, etc.
@N6RAC hmm. Interesting - I hadn’t thought of that as something places might try, but I guess with some outfits it wouldn’t surprise me.
@N3VEM It was common in IEEE Spectrum until they banned the practice a few years ago.
