For the first time since I became a Canadian citizen, I think I am now anti-monarchist.

(It will pass. But, gah.)

This one should be better, because the outfit is better, but his "I waited around for 70 years and all I got was this lousy gold t-shirt" expression makes it somehow even worse.

He has had more time to practice for his job than, possibly, any person who has ever lived. And yet.

@jacobtlevy he's the total poster-child for why hereditary monarchs (really, any monarchy) is a concept that should be put to rest, permanently.

Let him and the rest of the 'landed class' get a job and make due like anyone else.

@zeruch @jacobtlevy
Meritocracy, FTW.
Obvs.

@kkavanagh @zeruch On balance, the advantages of having a ridiculous non-meritocratic head of state seem to outweigh the risks.

Best of all is having a ridiculous non-meritocratic head of state *who doesn't even live on the same continent;* it has served places like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand very well. There's just *no one* in such a system who can walk around thinking of themselves as the living embodiment of state power and general will.
