A reminder about gun massacres in the USA:

Back in 1979 the Cleveland Elementary School shooting was so shocking that people wrote songs about it.

It was one of two spree shootings that year: there were a total of just 26 shootings in the decade 1970-1979.

Brenda Spencer killed two adults and injured 9 children.

Yesterday (May 6th) there were THREE comparable spree shootings in the USA: the day before that there were FIVE.

There have been 14 spree shootings in the first week of May, 2023.

@cstross And just now I saw how Wikipedia has to disambiguate "Cleveland Elementary School shooting" BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN TWO. TWO SHOOTINGS AT DIFFERENT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS CALLED "CLEVELAND ELEMENTARY".

I just... can't.

@wjrucklidge @cstross I heard there was a shooting at a Texas mall and I live near a mall in Texas, so wanted to look up news about it. So I searched "Texas shooting news". It took me several minutes to realize that even in the Breaking News category, there were TWO SHOOTINGS, one in Cleveland, TX, a few days ago and one in Allen, TX, yesterday.
