Today I visited the Acropolis, where a lot of very beautiful marble friezes would be if the British hadn't stolen them, put them in the British Museum, and refused to return them to the Greek government.

There may have been some yelling.

@evacide I agree with the sentiment. If the British didn't get them, though, someone else would have. Fact of life, I feel... Doesn't mean it's right.

@hamisec @evacide Greece is full of amazing ancient artifacts that weren't stolen by anyone. There was no force of nature forcing Elgin to hack bits off the Parthenon and ship them home. There is no inevitability here.

@philmoscovitch @evacide or the Romans from pilfering all of the Greek Marble for the Vatican... Such is life.
