I can't believe (well, I can) councils are still locking up election results in pdfs, (oxymoron alert) content management systems by well known providers who should know better, and legacy systems.
Blob the data and API the fucker.
P.S. I didn't get elected.
@petemcclymont Anyone doing it well, Peter?
@OX1Digital tbh I can't see any. I'm sure there used to be one or two. Even the usual good guys seem to have gone backwards.
J or G CMS and/or MG democracy software seems to guarantee crappiness. Open source anyone? Even vanilla Drupal. (Yuck.)
Having been away from local gov for 5 years I'm more convinced than ever that web should sit in customer services. Better still put the website in the dumpster and use TikTok. It couldn't be any worse.
@OX1Digital in other news, glad to be free of the T5 beast.
@OX1Digital sorry. Further rant but it's depressing to see the same terrible UX replicated across every council website I visit. Doesn't anyone do user testing? If they do they're obviously ignoring the results.
It was slightly better in HE. We were also beholden to crappy third party providers.
As a nation, we are wasting £millions lining the pockets of a very small number of all powerful "consultancies". This shouldn't be allowed to happen.[/rant]

My last localgov gig in Dorset Council was with a team of very dedicated content designers
