It looks as if the Tory plan is working.
1. Why have so many people not bothered to get photo Id?
2. Some who have been turned away say they may not vote again, which is exactly what the Tories want.
3. Figures for those turned away will be underestimated because some stations are turning people away before they reach the polling clerk.
This is a democratic outrage.VOTER SUPPRESSION WATCH: Voters Turned Away Without Photo ID Across England Amid Local Elections Concerns https://bylinetimes.com/2023/05/04/voter-suppression-watch-voters-turned-away-without-photo-id-across-england-amid-local-elections-concerns/
VOTER SUPPRESSION WATCH: Voters Turned Away Without Photo ID Across England Amid Local Elections Concerns – Byline Times

‘It’s totally unnecessary… They are disenfranchising people.’ Josiah Mortimer and colleagues report from across England as ID is rolled out for the first time.

@RabBrucesSpider1 North Korea, we used to laugh, not so funny now....
@RabBrucesSpider1 it's so obvious this us voter suppression, everyone said it is voter suppression yet this being Brexit Britain it happens anyway because this ain't a democracy
@RabBrucesSpider1 Everyone has known for MONTHS that some kind of ID would be needed...a form from the local council if no other ID is available...those that have not been able to vote are simply those who couldn't be arsed to make the effort...it's not 'voter suppression'...they've suppressed themselves deliberately.
@RabBrucesSpider1 so photo ID is not the norm in the UK? You cannot do anything in the USA without it. The DMV will issue a non-driver photo ID for people who cannot get a drivers' license.
@mike805 It’s never been required for voting in the UK, so this is a major change to the system. Voter fraud was virtually non-existent, but the Tories brought it in because they believe that it would exclude people who support their opponents, ie the poorest in society.
They also rigged it so that a bus pass for elderly people (who mostly vote Tory) is acceptable, but a bus pass for students & younger people is not acceptable. Blatant voter suppression.

@RabBrucesSpider1, it's endemic in Capitalism, not only in GB. as said by Julio Anguita (1941-2020), a Spanish politician (Communist Party and Mayor of Cordoba 1979-1986)

"In politics, a silent majority does not exist"
is what the political right always promotes in order to win, using lies and slander to sow doubts in the population that for this reason later does not vote, also helped by the media, most of them sympathetic to the right.
