And here a semi-regular reminder.

Antifa literally just means 'anti fascist'.

It's not a club.

And if you 'oppose' the idea of being against fascists then I shall call you by name...

You fucking fascist.

@coffeepine to be fair there are _some_ clubs/gangs that use "antifa" in their name (NYC antifa) and others that are explicitly antifascist but don't use the name (fsu).

many people dishonestly conflate and confuse these clubs/gangs (a tiny number of people) with the global community of people who oppose fascism (like a billion people at least)

and others use the style ANTIFA to sort of imply a sinister shadowy organization like ISIS or CIA

@scott @coffeepine the word gangs feels harsh in connotation. Organizing under the common goal of erasing fascism is a good thing no matter the context.
@fiveEyedBeast @coffeepine I think gangs are morally neutral. There are good gangs and bad gangs. Antifascist gangs are good. Police gangs are bad.

@coffeepine

"That is why folks like MTG keep trying to say antifa in ways that make it sound like something's its not. You know like when they say freedom" - a small plastic cup of wine that broke Matt Gaetz's facist stride

@coffeepine You’re either anti-fascist or pro-fascist. I stand with my American WW2 heroes as anti- fascist
@coffeepine My father was a violent antifascist. He landed on the beach at Normandy in 1944, at age 21.

@not2b @coffeepine @asiniy

He knew, fascists bound to lose.

@coffeepine
President of ANTIFA here: you're absolutely right.

@coffeepine Huh, funny. Lot of liberals hate antifa.

Now what was that old saying about scratching a liberal?

@coffeepine
The media still slip into the shorthand white supremacists made for anti-fascists. It's either playing into the game the supremacists want or just too lazy/careless to spell it out.

@coffeepine

We’re all Antifa “scum”!
I’ll take it.

@coffeepine dont be so black and white, there is also those in between, those who literally dont care if they live under fascism or not. Lets call them the fa-enablers
@coffeepine I actually like “fufa” as the opposite of “antifa”
@coffeepine
"I'm not fascist. I'm just antidisenfascistarian."
@coffeepine I get what you're saying, but I don't understand why you're saying this on here. You're surrounded by people who agree with you. There would be some people to call fascists on Twitter, but on Mastodon, you're very unlikely to reach your target audience.
@coffeepine anit antifa = pro fascist.

@coffeepine Attempts at demonizing antifa in USA media have always sounded really strange to me for this reason.

How could it possibly be a bad thing to be anti-fascist?
