Is this here in beta? If so do you have a timeframe for testing & next steps? Also, could not find anywhere to click if people would like to donate; maybe I missed it.... If you set an amount p/m for ex depending on your running costs?
@solarbranka Hey, that's not stupid! Alright, so about donations, I'm quoting a relevant recent post from the Admin account. Now about this being beta or not, it is a little complicated; you see, this started as a soft fork of Misskey, which already had stable versions. Right now we have three branches, one stable, one beta and one dev. Newest stuff goes in the dev branch, once in a while a beta release comes from the dev branch, which is more our "semi-stable"/public testing phase, and if no major bugs are found, it ends up in the stable/main branch. This server here is usually on the beta branch, right now we're running the Release Candidate for our v.14. So it's technically beta, practically very close to "stable". However, if the question is "is this the finished product?", then I'd have to say no. I'd say the current situation is that it's perfectly fine for day to day usage (I have my main social media account on Calckey for around 7 months now) but we still have a lot of things we want to improve/fix/implement. Development is going fast though, if you stick around for a few weeks you'll start noticing differences! The more attention the project gets, the more people will want to get involved, the faster we'll be seeing development to move on. As for a timeframe, we can't really provide one as all work is currently done by volunteers. You could take a look at this kanban at codeberg, but many times things are implemented that are not announced there - because for example someone from our (growing!) dev community might feel like working on something and then do a Pull Request to merge it to the dev branch and it can end up in stable very soon. What I can tell you is that some of the more major features devs are currently working on, among other smaller things, are post editing, improving mastodon api support, and an official native mobile app.
Thanks for this insight, it clears up a lot, much obliged! I will take a look at the links you kindly sent. Still think it would be useful for the vast number of calckey projects to perhaps add a little button on the menu bar with 'donate £££ per month', no?
@solarbranka Well, there are the official project's costs, and then there are the costs of each separate community server. This is an official community server so its running costs should be covered by donations to the project. If you click the help button at the end of the navigation bar ("i", under "Post"), and then "About Calckey", there is a "donate" button. I think it's fine there, I wouldn't want it to be more obtrusive.
Now each community server can deal with their running costs as they wish. For example, on the greek calckey community that I run with some friends, we have added a donation button that leads to our liberapay account. After our running costs are covered, we donate the extra money to solidarity causes.
