Controversial take but only because we’ll get it tonight, but Thatch has been overplayed since Cap. Love the song, arguably the best new song, but with a catalog of their size the show gaps for mainstays need to return to the 4.5-6.5 range.
@mattotaylor Setlist rotation is going to be a never-ending challenge for these guys as they write more songs—at least as long as they are playing only a dozen or so songs each night.
@chopaganda see I’m confused by that, more mainstay songs should equal more shows between plays, not less. Vibes and audibles are 100% fair and encouraged, they are the artists I’m paying to see and I’ll love that shit regardless. But I just feel that set list planning is so simple after the first show/run of a tour.
@mattotaylor @chopaganda Give me Thatch every night. Put California Magic to bed until 2025. 😂
@HapsInCO I agree, but there will always be songs I prefer. I also don’t place those songs in the same category within shows. Cali is a tight 9 rotator and thatch is a mainstay. Cali should be in the 10-14 range, and thatch should be in the 4-6.
@mattotaylor This is somewhat normal for Goose, and even other bands (Phish did it in 94,96, and 98 - all years they released “new” albums/material.)
They tend to over play some of their new songs, especially the ones they really like. This has been the case, not just for Thatch, but for Animal, Lead Up, and Feel it Now too. I’m sure there have been a few from past years as well.
