@npr Let's be clear. CONGRESS controls taxing and spending. The President does NOT. That's intentional, by design, to prevent totalitarian rule by one man. Congress has slightly more power than other branches, intentionally, on the theory that they're 'closer' to the People and therefore more representative of our will. The national debt can only ever be blamed on Congress, because it's impossible without their consent -- but does not require the President's consent.
