“The problem is that we all too often have socialism for the rich and rugged free enterprise capitalism for the poor. That’s the problem.”

@rbreich thank you for posting this quote from MLKjr. Our whole family was shocked when he died, just like John & Robert as well.
“The problem is that we all too often have socialism for the rich and rugged free enterprise capitalism for the poor. That’s the problem.”

—Martin Luther King Jr.

@rbreich I like what this draws attention to. However, it does seem to implicitly reinforce the rw tropes of 'socialism is handouts and subsidies'. Time to update? -"... bail outs for bankers, subsidies for the wealthy and the poor are on their own"
@rbreich Is the First Republic seizure and sale and example of this?
@rbreich First time to see that quote. Thank you. -Bruce
@rbreich On paper and poems socialism is an idllic and sublime ideology, in reality it is the powerholders of communist countries that enjoy the power and the economic benefits therein derived, like in China, Russia, Cuba,; and in the socialist-populist devotees in Nicaragua, Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia, etc.
@rbreich I have lived in both socialism and capitalism. Both are kind of stupid. Time for something better.
