Is it bad that I'm just too damn exhausted to try anything at all with bluesky? Like… that I don't even have the energy to give a fuck about the Discourse™ let alone actually try it? I just… I just can't fucking care.
And don't get it twisted: If I'd started there, first, and mastodon had come up in the Discourse™ afterwards, this would be about here, instead. I'm just… really fucking tired of this.
I've lived through BBS, AIM, Y!IM, IRC, LiveJournal, DeadJournal, Dreamwidth, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Mastodon, and roll-your-own-socials, and I when see the shape of what's to come it wearies me like a hot dry wind howling through time's ancient caverns and over desert wastes

@Wolven Indeed.

edit to add:

At this point switching social media platforms feels like when we used to say How many times do I have to buy the White album?

@samhainnight @Wolven How many times do I have to buy Skyrim? 🤣
This was a fun memory adventure for me … ICQ and LiveJournal were solid pieces of my past … I credit Twitter with giving me access to the right communities and experts to help me thrive in Cybersecurity… such adventures yet to come
@Wolven what, no Friendster or MySpace?? Tribe.net?? Diaspora?
@Wolven just as exhausted, honestly. filtering it out of my experience as much as possible. doing same with a LOT of discourse these days.
@Wolven Thank you. You put language to my exact feeling. It's amazing to me how quickly and fully I went from caring to not caring, and I'm sure it's true for others. There's a general feeling of was-ness over it all.
@Wolven 💯
@Wolven Thinking about this more ... part of my attitude about BS is that right now I don't feel like there's much for me to learn over there. Google+ (or Clubhouse for those who were there, which I wasn't) are examples of how limited-invite social media rollouts without up-front attention to moderation play out: it's great, until it isn't. Mastodon et. al.'s federated approach is at least something different, failing in new and interesting ways.
@Wolven It's such an effort to relocate to a new social media platform, establish a new group of follows and followers and the try to find all your friends from the new site.
Not to mention you lose all your old posts and bookmarks. Unless Bluesky ends up being some kind of Nazi free paradise, and it sure doesn't look like it will be, I'm sticking around here, on Mastodon on a server based in Germany where they have actual anti Nazi laws.

@Wolven oh god no, save yourself

I’m there because I watching the experiment is relevant to my work, otherwise it would be one more distraction

@kissane @Wolven same here. If it wasn’t professionally related I would save my time and energy too.
@ahmetasabanci @kissane my problem is also that it *is* professionally related and i just… ugh. I just don't want to.
@Wolven @ahmetasabanci Yeaaaah but counterpoint, you can totally give it a few more weeks while everyone is freaking out about features that have existed for like a nanosecond
