I'm starting to sound like a broken record on this, but deploying CO₂ removal (#CDR) when we're emitting 40+ billion tonnes of CO₂ every year makes zero sense.

We need to decarbonize ASAP, and at the same time, research, developed, test, and decide which climate solutions are effective, don't have horrible side effects, and can be applied justly.

Deployment of CDR will come later, to remove residual emissions.

The flawed logic of rushing out extreme climate solutions

Forging too fast into controversial terrain can spark backlashes that stall research and limit our options.

@davidho

I'm 98% on board with this.

Unfortunately even many of the effective climate solutions we have (solar + wind) also have horrible side effects that apply unevenly and unjustly. But we still need them.

Recognizing those impacts means recognizing that the less energy we waste on SUVs, crypto, advertising, etc. means the less of those impacts we have.

But the situation we're in imo doesn't have a pain free way forwards. As you say, how can this be done justly is the key question.

@sy
Important that we learn how to keep welfare using less energy.

@Chris @davidho or even expand welfare (especially to countries that don't have much in the way of public healthcare, education, transport etc) while getting rid of things like weapons, advertising, SUVs, and private planes.
@sy
Sure. But we need to be more than the two of us to choose that route. And the no weapons world I can only believe in beyond the Putin/Xi dynasty.
