It's hard not to watch a House of Commons committee -- any House of Commons committee -- and not feel immense despair.

The Director of CSIS is now 41 minutes into a 60 minute committee hearing on foreign interference. He has not received a single question. He has not said a single word. #cdnpoli

I'm thinking back to this recent piece from @arturmaks about how top natsec officials need to testify in Parliament more often. https://policyoptions.irpp.org/magazines/april-2023/must-increase-confidence-canadas/

I'd like to add: if MPs are going to drag Canada's top natsec officials before committee -- and they should! -- the least they could do is some homework and *ask them something*.

We must increase confidence in Canada’s security and intelligence enterprise

Increased transparency can improve confidence in Canadian security and intelligence. Using intel to guide policymaking would also help.
