The feedback form for #TrinityMetro here in #FortWorth is janky and limited to 250 chars, so I got in what comments I could and figure I'll post the rest of my rambling here.

Will streetcars return to Fort Worth? With growth comes a renewed interest in project

Almost 150 years since the first streetcars came to Fort Worth, a study exploring its possible comeback could start in the next few months.

Fort Worth Report

I support the idea of a streetcar for Fort Worth. Last autumn, I visited Oklahoma City -- one of the places mentioned in the article -- and used their streetcar a bunch. It was great! It was vital for me to be able to get around the city. I was able to see immersive art at #FactoryObscura and shop at a variety of stores. I was able to get over to #TamashiiOKC for some of the best ramen I've ever had, and I was able to do all that while saving my feet and the trouble of gas and parking.

But I think for as nifty as the streetcar was, there was one huge factor that made it successful: timing.

I'm not talking about how often it ran or how closely it stuck to the schedule. Those are important as well. But the really important thing was that it ran late AF! 2am on the weekends! Hello!!! Even the best of the #TrinityMetro routes only runs until just after midnight on weekends, and not even with reasonable degrees of connectivity. You have to start heading home at 9 or 10!

There's also a lot to be said for the fact that most folks generally won't take transit until it's faster than private cars, and a streetcar won't solve that unless it has sections where it has its own right of way that cars can't use.

But for visitors wanting to traverse the city easily, a streetcar can work. It can work for locals, too! It's just important to really look at the other factors that make the #OKCStreetcar successful and be prepared to address those issues in #FortWorth too.
