The situation in the Montana legislature is reminding me of my constant frustration at urban leftists in "blue" states. Stop fucking ignoring the actions of those in rural "red" states. People are fighting and y'all dismiss them without a second thought.
I'm not an electoralist, but the first *two* trans legislators in the country are from Montana. Nebraska had the only atheist legislator in the country (please learn about Ernie Chambers) until he was ousted, but also elected another atheist who's bisexual with a trans kid.
On the more radical end, where tf would pipeline defense be without the people actually living in these rural areas?? Malcon X was born in Nebraska, and the Poindexter case happened there. Are y'all also going to ignore the indigenous activism across the plains??
The amount of energy it takes to get critical mass for protests is exponentially higher in these states. YET these protests still happen.
I know its funny to make statements like "oh no one gives a shit about that, its Nebraska/Montana/the Dakotas/Wyoming", but your ignorance is hurting real fucking people.
The argument of "well there are fewer people there, so it's not as important as [insert major population center here]" is only furthering marginalization. Are marginalized lives less important if they live in plains states? Fuck y'all.
When you see action from rural "red" states, boost that shit. Show people you care. Learn about the radical history of these areas, and support your comrades in this fight. At the very least, check your biases and rhetoric.
