In my exp, the answer often correlated to the status and prestige of a researchers home institution esp grad students.
It can be amusing at times when a bunch of (lovely) communists, anarchists, radicals, etc. come together and seem to not notice the elephant in the ivy tower
This might be one of my top pet peeves in Academia
Choosing to ignore class at an individual as well as institutional level
or even worse... believing that quality or even excellence 🤢 of research is not determined by econimic factors
