This is rewriting history at its worst, and Lemon was right to stand up for the truth.

Civil War - 1861-1865
NRA instituted in 1871
It was illegal for Black people to own guns till AFTER the civil war.
Even then MLK Jr was famously denied concealed carry permit after his house was firebombed coz he was "unsuitable".

I’m not particularly fond of Don Lemon but I don’t think I’m taking a huge leap by suggesting that firing him over this interaction is pretty obviously racist. The idea that an African American anchor can’t push back on a blowhard making things up about African American history is vile.

Sydney@atrupar Also note, she didn’t sit back in her chair and look uncomfortable until Lemon took out his ear piece and stopped listening to the producer. That guest was telling a lot of lies on national tv. Lemon pushed back. I’m sure management didn’t like it but I’m glad Don pushed back.
