Haven't tried it yet, but I feel like Bluesky is poised to become the #1 contender for the “new Twitter” crown, considering they have the legitimacy of being an actual Twitter spin-off (as long as they take a less ideologic approach to federation and make it easy for newbies to join).
Meanwhile, people on Mastodon are still debating if client apps should have a signup button in their onboarding flow. 🙃

The official Mastodon app now prompts users to join mastodon.social by default, when previously it prompted them to pick a server. If you're new this may sound harmless, but let me explain.
