We knew Covid was associated with diverse self-directed antibodies. But now the link to diverse autoimmune diseases has been established in triplicate

The heightened risk of autoimmune diseases after Covid

Ground Truths
@erictopol thanks all the updates are much appreciated, does vaccination reduce auto immune events even if covid infection occurs ?
@Kaetchi @erictopol I'm interested in this aspect too. The one study suggesting "mild to moderate" cases have higher risk of auto immune events makes me nervous, but then the same study excluded people who had been vaccinated so maybe the research is yet to be done? Edited to add: just reread and saw that is the case, "None of the 3 reports had data for the effect of vaccination."

@erictopol Yikes! And this is the disease we're all supposed to get a few times a year because why not.

Sterilizing immunity now! Seriously, can't wait for good nasal vaccines.

@erictopol Comorbidity is a huge part of this, too. For example, anemia itself isn't really considered a major health problem, but there are a lot of reports (myself included) that seem to point to Anemia + Covid as a recipe for life-changing long-term effects.

@erictopol

So long covid is your body having been tricked into killing itself. Fucking Great.

@erictopol

Thank you. This has long been suspected and now we get more confirmation sadly. The missing link in my opinion could be EBV reactivation due to Covid acting as a trigger by way of immune response. There is correlation here because some studies already pointed toward the fact that a large number of LC patients had elevated EBV titers. Needs more studies toward this mechanism, as it is the likeliest explanation imo.
Either way, though, sobering study...
