Went down a real rabbit-hole this weekend trying to find hemp t-shirts for women that are available in Canada. Surprisingly hard to find. #Onno and #prAna seemed the best options but both US based w/inconvenient shipping. #Tentree seems the only significant local option but colours and styles very limited. Definitely an area for Canadian companies to do a better job growing! #clothing #fashion
@Pentapod before cannabis legalisation, there used to be a shop on Whyte Ave that sold basically every product from that plant (and every possible bit of then-legal cannabis paraphernalia) except the actual drug. Are they gone now?
@IPEdmonton I have no idea, I don’t tend to go into that type of shop so if I saw it I probably just assumed it was another weed store. πŸ€” Whereabouts on Whyte?

@Pentapod god, I don't remember, it's been years since that neighbourhood was my stomping grounds. And googling "Whyte Avenue cannabis" doesn't help these days. πŸ˜†β€‹

I think it was this place, though. In which case, they've switched their business model to selling actual cannabis now, and also moved to Winnipeg, and ALSO seem to no longer sell clothing (the "hemp beauty" category under "lifestyle" is all lotions and stuff)? Which doesn't help you in the slightest. Sorry! https://jupitergrass.ca/pages/about-us

@IPEdmonton well that's a shame! But in that case I stand by my original complaint-toot. Clearly a market there's room to expand into! πŸ˜„β€‹
@Pentapod Hemp seems to be going through a phase where it's easier to get woven items rather than knit, for some reason. And when you can get knit, it's usually blended with cotton for some reason. Patagonia (the only hemp I've ever owned) is a fairly decent company, although not Canadian, and I was happy with their shirts. I've been pondering getting some hemp knit fabric and having a stab at sewing one myself.
@Pentapod Also, I think the reason you don't see more hemp in general is that you need a license to grow it (at least in Canada), and that makes the fibre harder to obtain.
