We used to have CONELRAD, which begat the Emergency Broadcast System, which begat the Emergency Alert System, that honking low-res crawl on your cable at 2:00AM.
Now we have Wireless Emergency Alerts, which sounds like what happens when you're late and can't find your phone, but is the national information system everyone tries to disable because we thought Trump was going to use it to tweet to us every few minutes.
