@brewsterkahle hmmm... why should it cost anything? What do they do that can't be done with a website using FOSS? Did I miss something?
@jamesmarshall @brewsterkahle It doesn’t need to cost anything to authors or readers. The machine learning community did this in 2001, when most of the editorial board of the then #1 journal of the field, Machine Learning, resigned to join the editorial board of a new volunteer-run, open access journal, Journal of Machine Learning Reseach (JMLR). It's so much more impactful that they joined together- my best wished for their new journal!
We all need to think carefully where we publish, but I admit it is easier to be picky if you're tenured.
