Fun fact: the Polish conservatives were screaming about the tiny amount of refugees from Africa and Asia and were using the "why don't you let them all stay at your house then", and then Russia invaded Ukraine and a lot of people from Poland just let Ukrainian refugees stay at their houses. Poland took in well over a million refugees in 2022.

(But the conservatives were silent then, weirdly enough, and then tried to take credit)

It's a very good example of how politics differ from what society wants, needs and ultimately decides to do.
For the sake of fairness I have to point out that there were also people who outright told that an Ukrainian refugee is better than a middle east or African one, because of a racist bingo reasons.
