Musk systematically punishes reporters on Twitter for coverage he doesn’t like. For this reason alone, no journalist should be on Twitter. https://journa.host/@w7voa/110228528322091511

"WIRED learned Wednesday afternoon that senior reporter Dell Cameron's Twitter account was permanently suspended after he reported on Matt Walsh's Twitter account being hacked. Neither Dell's story nor his Twitter feed contained hacked materials. We do not believe his account violated Twitter's policy....our attempts to reach Twitter's press office were met with the customary poop emoji. ..." - WIRED Managing Editor, Hemal Jhaveri

@JamesGleick @mmasnick I try not to judge too harshly most times and I appreciate why people whose livelihood depends on it are there. Not sure I'm there yet but we are fast approaching the point where I think less of those still contributing to it.
@Brandon @JamesGleick @mmasnick
The thing is, it is strategically unwise to not establish a presence here as a hedge against Twitter imploding or getting shut down by one regulator or another, not to mention a decent chance of getting booted off.
@joeinwynnewood @Brandon @JamesGleick @mmasnick exactly! Establish a presence here, even if it’s the same content as on Twitter. More importantly, engage with people.
@joeinwynnewood @Brandon @JamesGleick @mmasnick there are regulators? 😂 sure doesn't look like it!
@sarahejfraser @Brandon @JamesGleick @mmasnick
Because they move slowly doesn't mean they don't move.
@JamesGleick I don’t know if I would describe that man doing anything “systematically” but your point is taken.

@JamesGleick But he is a gree speech absolutist...

No, for real... truly... and all that .... you know.

@JamesGleick

we noticed... several interesting discussions were destroyed because the accounts were suspended ... journalists and human rights crusaders just really saying the truth... I wonder what is a good alternative to Twitter

@Annevelink_AD @JamesGleick You’re using the alternative *now*

@mjgardner @JamesGleick

I wish to get into Bluesky too for just in case as Twitter is so weird .... are you guys members already ?

@Annevelink_AD @JamesGleick I’m not and haven’t pursued it. I’m not interested in another walled garden. They say it’s based on an “open” protocol, but so far I’ve only seen clients—and we’ve seen API rug-pulls before. https://github.com/bluesky-social/atproto-ecosystem

If they begin to have multiple independent server implementations (preferably federated), I’ll be interested.

@JamesGleick and he said he wants to remove censorship from Twitter...
@JamesGleick Musk suppresses the left on Twitter in general, which makes it harder to challenge the growing insanity of the right. For example you are suppressed if you mention gay or trans.
Freedom of Speach my ass.
@EmpressCozyGlow @JamesGleick I see lots of nuanced discussion of trans issues and leaders on the birdsite. Who was censored?

@JamesGleick

Imagine investing so much on something that you know can go puff at any moment, without any plan B at a minimum....Makes me question the intelligence of some. Not to mention their integrity, as the way to "not go puff" is to not do anything to offend the toddler CEO.

@JamesGleick yes, but journalists are addicted to it like junkies.
@JamesGleick Not just journalists. I got suspended for criticizing Musk.
@thelastpinkcar @JamesGleick I blocked Elno, but would like to know how I go about getting myself suspended for all the right reasons.
@JamesGleick 100% Journalists need to give up the ghost, Twitter is dead. Every moment they stay continues to legitimize his actions and the site.
