My head canon for Deming’s evolution is: takes Shewhart’s work from the 30s, produces extremely powerful operational data tools, realises the potential harm of those tools if used in bad sociotechnical systems; comes up with principles for better sociotechnical systems.
My main issue right now is figuring out how everything in his philosophy fits together — at a level where I can articulate it in my own words.
@cedricchin When, during the COVID period, I was studying the XXth century history of statistics. I have read many documents from/about E.Demming.
I was fascinated of the effort he put to turn into a framework his key learnings from Japan to "educate" the west.
At that time I was more interested by the technical part, so I quickly connected to me to Bayesian epistemology.
@cedricchin My daily work in a fast growing company, made me face permanently "shared beliefs".
Justified or Not.
True or Not.
So I will be highly interested of rewrtie of Demming's framework.
