@rbreich @inequalitymedia I paid 5.19% of my income in taxes for last year.
Our city has a 10.25% sales tax rate. Oh, and a sugar tax. And I'm looking across the street and gas prices are currently at $4.85/gallon. I have to drive outside of city limits (about 15-20 miles) to buy groceries for reasonable prices and even then it's often doubled or tripled in price the past couple years. My union fought hard, but even with reported 8-10% inflation, they still only managed to get us 6% COLA increases.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen...you can make $54K a year, still be considered in poverty, but pay more percentage of your income to taxes than Jeff Besoz. And the cost for just living is becoming more and more expensive.
