As long as there’s money to be made by selling lies, weaponizing Trump's viciousness, and peddling conspiracies, Fox News will continue to do it.

Profiting off of dangerous lies has become a big business in America.

It’s one of the core challenges to the future of democracy.

What’s the perfect punishment for Fox News?

How to undo the Fox propaganda feedback loop

@rbreich
Well, $1.6 billion, for starters.
And then, shut it down, mü†håfü¢kå!
@rbreich
If it's a fine, then we've allowed them to pay for a license to commit crimes which they will continue to do. They must lose their broadcasting license.
@rbreich A large financial fine is a given. require them to fact-check each episode of all of their opinion shows, and announce the results on-air prior to the episode running.
@rbreich every segment for 6 months. 'We lied to you. The president lied to you. All the guests we had on has lied to you. There was no fraud on the 2020 election. Dominion systems worked as they were supposed to. No fraud was committed.
@rbreich I bet the settlement mediation failed on precisely this in particular.
@rbreich No deals - take court case to the end
@rbreich perfect punishment, removing all network and news licenses and seeing them filing for bankruptcy. I hope Dominion gets billions out of them.
@rbreich Renaming it Fox Social.
@rbreich
1. Revoke their license.
2. Fine/jail the CEO.
3. Fine/jail individual anchors/commentators.
@rbreich fear and hate have always been the best selling emotions in the media - and in politics, too.

@rbreich
So in this modern age, misinformation is beneficial to both unscrupulous politicians AND for-profit media outlets.

We who believe in truth need to up our game.

@rbreich

There will be no democracy with capitalist money making!
Or profits, or democracy - you can't have both.
Capitalism is the graveyard digger of democracy:
Look what is happening in the US right now! Everybody can see it. To secure their absurd profits, capitalists are turning to fascism, even before any government tried to raise taxes. There is only one way to save democracy: Overcome capitalism and patriarchy! Cooperation instead of competition, equality of ALL genders. 🙏

@rbreich The US hasn't been a democracy - ever. Think electoral college; think gerrymandering; think private money in politics.

For the rest, your post is spot on.

@Miro_Collas @rbreich True, and I don't think any country has ever been a pure democracy. Doesn't mean we can't try it now though.

@tilden @rbreich You're right, no country has achieved it, but many have gotten *much* closer than the US ever has.

And sure it can and should be tried, but that will be a massive battle, as the powerful have a lot of money to spend to prevent it from happening. Currently, their money buys them laws they want, allows them to unpay workers, etc etc. Capitalism is anti-democracy. The two cannot co-exist.

@rbreich The best disinfectant is sunlight.

The Reagan Administration enabled #FAUXNews.
#FAUXNews enabled #DrunkUncaDonaldDuck, #MAGAts & #GQPDeniosaurs.
#DrunkUncaDonaldDuck ignored CoViD, weakened NATO, enabled #PutinsWar, failed democracy & the world.
Stop the #TrumpTaint stench. #Amendment45.

@rbreich “And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed—if all records told the same tale—then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.” (1984 by George Orwell.)
@rbreich probably not legal but force it to be an a la carte cable or streaming purchase. No subsidy from people who just want to watch NBA on TNT
@rbreich totally agree with you
@rbreich Yes... They will say whatever sells... Just like the Heritage Foundation... and That those vegetables at George Mason University in Northern Virginia...
