NBC Knoxville: "TN House Speaker Sexton facing questions about where he lives"

Notably, this report cites a 2021 case where a judge ruled "ruled Tennessee law allows elected officials to live outside of their district, as long as it is temporary."

Hard to argue Sexton's move is temporary when he bought a $600,000 home.

UPDATE: Tennessee House Speaker secretly bought $600,000 home in Nashville

Tennessee Speaker Cameron Sexton (R) secretly bought a home in Nashville for nearly $600,000 in September 2021 through an anonymous trust, Popular Information has learned. The revelation raises serious new questions about whether Sexton can legally represent Crossville, which is nearly two hours from Nashville. If Sexton is not a "qualified voter" in Crossville, he is ineligible to represent Crossville under

NBC Knoxville asked Sexton why he didn't pay his property bills and why he took tens of thousands of dollars in per diems intended for members who live more than 50 miles from Nashville when he has a house 6 miles away.

@juddlegum Dear TN Dems - run someone kickass for state Attorney General, so Sexton can be prosecuted for all the per diem he took illegally.
@bkmnus @juddlegum The TN AG is appointed by the TN Supreme Court. Judges & Justices are appointed, but then have to run to keep their job at the next election & again every 8 yrs. If they are *not* elected, then a replacement is appointed. Our courts are largely conservative.
@bkmnus @juddlegum if only it were that that easy! I worked at the University of Wisconsin Madison where a professor received per diem for 90% of the year because she claimed to live in California, when she actually rented an apartment in Geneva, Switzerland and spent most of her time there. This is your tax dollars at work, because all of that money was coming from a very large grant from the DOE.
