I have an indoor cat. She greets me at the front door, like a good indoor cat.
Except this morning, when I returned home in an unfamiliar car, from the wrong direction. As I got out of the car I saw my good indoor cat barrel down a treetrunk, scoot across the lawn, and leap up a wall and through a window I didn't know she could access.
Then she demurely greeted me at the front door like any good indoor cat.
How long has this been going on?

Reminds me when I lived on a ranch far out in the country and kept my Border Collie in a lovely outside chainlink pen while I went to work

Until one day a neighbor from several miles away stopped by to mention my dog escapes his pen every day as soon as I leave and roams all over, hazing and herding people's cows. Then he'd come home and get back in his pen before I arrived!

Who says animals aren't smart? :-)
