Capping the amount of land that one entity can control to 500 hectares will increase the number of farmers and limit land concentration. Agricultural land is a finite resource, needed to feed populations. Essential resources to feed the many can't be controlled by just a few. 🥕

A land directive has to protect different types of land ownership, such as public, communal and community ownership. These lands and forms of ownership have been used for years to manage resources across Europe and should be protected from transfer to private ownership. ✊🏼

A peasant land directive must redistribute land use rights through public land banks, supporting access to land for new farmers and sustainable, agroecological models, particularly for land that's abandoned, neglected or used to the detriment of people and the environment.

A directive must protect soil health and thus promote, enable and prioritise peasant agroecology for soil fertility and restoration. Through a European Soil Obervatory and giving longer-term leases to farmers we can better use and preserve soils.

Creating a European Land Observatory would increase transparency, and allow us to measure and monitor land grabbing and concentration and the impact of markets on land prices, and help local and national authorities to act.

A peasant directive must protect forest lands, which are currently left out of the CAP. Some Member States like Sweden have strong laws to protect forest and agricultural land from being owned by companies, and a land directive must enable MS to take similar action.
