Metal Planer Milling Machine Cutting a Long Part - Machine Tool Rescue - Manual Machine Shop

The Planer Mill has been an instrumental piece here in the shop. As the only shop in the area capable of these long cuts, it sees a bit of use. This particular job is not long by my standards at only 3 feet, but a good job to run on here as it is only one setup. I make a full cut of .750 By .750 in 1018 Cold Roll Bar over the 36". Running a 1" end mill that was given to me by a viewer, at 135Rpm with the cold air gun for cooling. This setup performed amazingly well, and I look forward to making more upgrades to the machine to improve setups and job performance. The American Tool Works Planer was rescued from the scrapper a few years ago. The previous owner had removed all of the planer components and fitted it with a mill head, but I unfortunately did not get the head they used. I purchased a "rebuilt" Bridgeport mill head and adapted it to the machine. This head was definitely not rebuilt and will need more attention soon. I have since updated this machine to make it more and more useful, along with the coming addition of a full 3 axis DRO. Topper Machine LLC is an entirely manual machine shop located in Spooner, WI.
