The fact that Texas Governor Greg Abbott is trying to pardon a racist, convicted murderer to score political points with his base is such a pathetic reflection of the deranged state of the GOP at the moment.

@brianklaas
I see it as the aftermath of Trump. He elevated, as Hillary called them, deplorables. Now the party is led by a discordant mob of deplorables, with Trump no longer offering direction, just grievance.

Outrageous ideas are the way to get noticed, and since only deplorables speak out, no GOP person speaks out against the crazy ideas. I think some of their voters are tepid, tribally connected to party, but not sure where it's headed.

@brianklaas The pace at which “conservatives” are abandoning any sense of the rule of law is striking.
@brianklaas it really seems like the perfect reflection of today’s Republican Party. Sacrificing principles for political expediency is the bread and butter of the modern GOP.
@seansayswords
destroying not sacrificing, they don't hold these principles dear.
@brianklaas but is it tho? At this point I wouldnt be surprised if the gop made kyle rittenhouse their rnc chairman.
