I wonder if large media orgs hesitance to set up Mastodon instances has anything to do with some sort of RSS blowback from 10+ years ago?
@burritojustice That's what will happen when Google creates a Mastodon reader service that becomes the most popular way to access the feeds by 2027, and then pulls the plug in 2029.
@durf @burritojustice RSS isn't dead because of Google Reader, I still use it daily, which is one of the benefits of federation and self hosting - no? Substack/Mailchimp/Mastodon are all RSS, the news site never removed their feeds, there are bridges for whatever closed-wall social you use. Seems to me resiliency is one of the benefits of this kind of open tech.
