Elon Musk's fortune, which ultimately enabled his takeover of Twitter, has been padded by billions in subsidies and contracts paid for by American taxpayers.

Just in case anyone needed that reminder.

Elon Musk says he's anti-subsidy, but has gotten billions of dollars

Musk's companies benefited from subsidies as recently as April, when SpaceX won a $2.89 billion contract from NASA. Tesla got subsidies for years.

@rbreich
He is so ..
@Americanist4u @rbreich This is some seriously scary shit. I'm not sure I can un-see it.
@Americanist4u @rbreich omg my eyes. my eyes are burning.😵‍💫
@Americanist4u @rbreich I always thought he looked like George Santos. Probably the same kind of grifter....
@rbreich Dude’s anti subsidy for anyone not named Elon Musk.
@rbreich A leach of epic proportions, Elon is.
@HumanityExists @rbreich love the Yoda speak :sheepoSleepo:
@rbreich never trust a conservative
@rbreich anti-subsidy for anyone else.

@rbreich “In a recent interview with TIME, he said the government was not a good ‘steward of capital.’”

…said the guy who spent $44B on twitter.

@rbreich

Like all things Elon, *he* is special and deserving - *everybody* else is icky and undeserving.

@rbreich anti subsidy for the like of YOU. He’s entitled because he’s so special.
@rbreich not to be a Musk apologist at all but I do think it unfair to claim contracts as nearly the same thing as tax breaks, grants, and subsidies. That aside I think it is a valid set of points.
@rbreich seems like a long-winded way to say Elon started with inherited wealth, then crimed his way into more wealth.
@rbreich
In fact, few of his companies ever turned a profit - and often via gov contracts and subsidies.
@rbreich About not using twitter, everybody! I never belonged to a social network until Mastodon. Get over the addiction. Instead of spending hours tweeting, about reading the Guardian, and other serious sites to get proper information. Of course, you have to read and use your brain.
@rbreich so should he critised for making the EV market a real thing? For dramatically reducing the costs of launching into space? For making a global low cost (relativity) ISP? How much were existing space companies paid for disposable rocketry?
@pauldotm @rbreich are they also trashing the hand that fed them? Are they also platforming actual Nazis?
@rbreich
Ok I did not know that.
Thanks for sharing.
@rbreich I think about it everytime anything associated with him comes up. You know he intends to take over everything, right? His bitcoin banking plot is now coming out. He means to own the world.

@rbreich someone needs to label his Twitter account "Government funded!"

🤣

@rbreich There are many problems with the US budget allocations.
@rbreich Socialism for the wealthy isn't socialism in their eyes.

@rbreich

Also funded by zombied social media addicts without enough of a moral code as to dump Twitter and leave it an empty parking lot for the American taliban groupies.

@rbreich Elon: state sponsored idiot.

@rbreich not entirely sure on the take, but taking subsidies (which he says he opposes) and (for example) launch contracts are different animals. And the BI article you posted includes things like 'the EV tax credit is a Tesla subsidy'

I really do hate Elon as a person, and somewhat his business practices, but let's separate the grift from legitimate business

@rbreich isn’t it just incredible that when you have vast wealth the ‘powers that be’ fall over themselves to give you more, but when the arse of your last pair of jeans have worn so thin they can barely contain your feeble skin and bone those same ‘powers that be’ look down on you like shit on the soles of their shoe? Could it be that the hope the wealthy will do them some kind of ‘favour’? They only want your vote periodically! See DJT…..
@rbreich do you know how I can get some of those subsidies?
@rbreich he is such a deranged asshole!!

@rbreich

Twitter is a State-Sponsored social media platform?

Does this mean Elon will be restricted in his ability to post lies? Or restricted in his ability to tell the truth?

Either way, it's Elon should join Mastodon and swear off Twitter. Just because he has an innate ability to destroy the platform shouldn't matter in this case.

@rbreich Musk’s first millions came from his family’s theft of emerald mines that rightfully belong to the black people of South Africa. Being rich is easy when the money is stolen, and when it’s then invested in lucrative technology that other people invented (and that you hog the credit for) and that governments support with tax money from which you waste proceeds on pet projects to overthrow democracy and to get a share of political contributions. That’s theft to the fourth power.

@rbreich church has done this for 200 years & gives nothing back compared to its fortune.

It’s strange you avoid mentioning them.

If I had an organization that hadn’t paid taxes since 1802 & held hundreds of thousands in bondage for cheap slave labor, while I got my rocks off preaching to them that they didn’t have a soul, up until my perverted slave fetish was brought to an end by civil war in the 1860s - still untaxed - I would have the wealthiest corporation w/ the most money no?

@rbreich Corporations are people & money is free speech?

May as well be waving a Nazi salute to accept that dude.

CitizensUnited is in utter defiance of the Bill of Rights -it’s Christian depraved nazi terrorism.
