Real talk:

Saying "I believe in strong family values" is merely a performative veneer if you dont also take Climate Action to preserve the environment your family is dependent upon.

Well said!

IMHO when it comes to the #ClimateEmergency - It is not hopeless & we, the people are not helpless!

The United nation says: “Everyone can help limit climate change. From the way we travel, to the electricity we use, the food we eat, and the things we buy, we can make a difference.” https://www.un.org/en/actnow/ten-actions

It’s up to us – WE,THE PEOPLE to save planet Earth by becoming #ClimateConsumers who actively mitigate global warming by our daily choices of who we donate to, vote for, invest/divest/bank in; what we buy, eat, drive/pedal; to degasifying & electrifying everything; reduce, reuse, recycle; & limit our overconsumption. https://news.climate.columbia.edu/2018/12/27/35-ways-reduce-carbon-footprint/

“Politicians are not coming to the rescue of planet Earth” https://www.newstatesman.com/environment/2022/10/greta-thunberg-guest-edit-politicians-rescue-planet & “Saving the world is voluntary…we need billions of #climate activists” - Greta Thunberg https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/oct/08/greta-thunberg-climate-delusion-greenwashed-out-of-our-senses

Robert Reich @rbreich Says “A handful of billionaires now have unprecedented control over banking, the food we eat, the health care we can access and, now, the information we receive. - This is what oligarchy looks like.”

William Stanley Jevons said: “Value is created by the consumer, not the producer… the consumer is the ‘ultimate regulator of demand’” - https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/11/how-humans-became-consumers/508700/

Actions for a healthy planet | United Nations

The Sustainable Development Goals spell out how we can protect our environment and slow climate change, from forests to oceans to everywhere in between. Think about your electricity use and your travel. Check your dinner table. Reuse whatever you can. The possibilities for action are many – and add up fast.

While I don't want to criticize people taking individual action, I firmly believe we cannot consume our way out of climate crisis. Consumption and capitalism are the foundation of the climate crisis, and while these aren't not worthwhile actions, "Climate Consumers" won't make much difference unless they're actively fighting the very institutions that tell us our only power is money (which many of us simply don't have).

@maddramaqueen @WBOrcutt @hannu_ikonen 🎯 Consumption is the global opiate. I've decided to turn my labor into direct benefits to my house, family, and community, instead of trading it for dollars. I'm not perfect, but it's a spectrum, so I can work continuously to pull away, bit by bit.
@WBOrcutt @hannu_ikonen @rbreich | Another great way to find some energy and hope in exciting local leader #politicalwill around climate action is to listen to the amazing folks I've interviewed for my Living Change climate leadership podcast (I talk with lawmakers from Culver City and Baltimore, and more, and corporate and cultural influencers. Each interview gave me HOPE and energy to continue the push. https://link.cohostpodcasting.com/2cb109d3-1bf3-4c8a-abcd-c2d0a6c17db9?d=sfaGM4PgE
