Most police departments auction off confiscated items that aren't illegal in their own right. My dad bought my brother a drug scale to use for his model jet engine builds, for example.

This one seems especially egregious of course, I'm just explaining the system's logic here

@RnDanger @flexghost That makes sense - I learned that's possible on that episode when Homer ended up buying Snake's Lil' Bandit from a Police Auction.

I guess I had no idea that there needed to be such a quick turnaround with evidence. I get that after a certain period of time, you can't spend more due diligence on the weapon .. but it seems in awful taste to sell some item that part of an ongoing case.
