Doctor Whordle 6 4/6

This has gotten much harder with the move to six letters. I really think this change should've been telegraphed a bit and maybe a completely new app created so that the stats could start again. Might even need an additional guess.

It's amazing how much more difficult it is to put yourself into six-letter mode.

@TheHandOfFear sorry about that again. As I said it didn’t occur to me that it wouldn’t be obvious I’d run out of words. Six letters isn’t a lot harder- based on doing byrdles. It let’s you probe through the alphabet faster, even though there are more places letters can go. The choice was to make it a fraction harder or allow another guess which would have made it a lot easier.

Thanks for responding. Can I ask you about the word list? You say you'd run out of words, but I was constantly trying 5-char names of DW characters that weren't in the list, and I've just tried words like SNYDER and GEARON which it also doesn't recognise. Is there a way to expand the valid DW word list?

@TheHandOfFear I tried not to pick too obscure words. So I had, for instance, names of producers and script editors but not writers or directors unless I thought they had particular significance- e.g. Terry Nation and Waris Husain. I included planets, monsters and villains but generally not other supporting cast unless they seemed particularly significant.

@TheHandOfFear The aim was to try not to be off-putting for fans without completely encyclopedic knowledge- though I wasn’t sure if I got that right. I had complaints that it was too hard and complaints that there were too many “irrelevant “ words like Paris or “Shard”.

@louiseadennis I see what you're saying, but could you perhaps consider having more obscure words as valid responses without them necessarily being the correct response?

@TheHandOfFear Yes I did but words basically got added to it if I tried them and they didn’t work or if someone pointed a missing word out to me. It had about thirty words in it by the end. There was basically a limit to the time I wanted to spend going through “The Programme Guide” and Wikipedia typing in names of minor characters. But if someone wants to send a list, it’s easy to add once compiled

@TheHandOfFear This time I’ve been a bit more generous with supporting characters- I’ve tried to include a word relevant to every story (though Edge of Destruction defeated me early on - though I considered including Switch for “ fast return switch “ but felt that would lead to the same complaints as Shard etc). But it becomes more subjective- so characters get in if I think them memorable or significant
