/n Cave Day3: … listen …. Echoing up from the cave, the sounds of cleaning back using an archaeological trowel, uncovering intact cave sediment from thousands of years ago… time travelling happening here! #IrishCaveBones
/n (I’ve lost count already I think) …. Royal Irish Academy’s archaeological committee member, Sam Moore, visiting us on site. Dr Richard Jennings of Liverpool John Moores University standing next to Sam. Sam brought the sun with him from Sligo!
Time for coffee and chat!!!
/n (I think, I’ve lost count again)…a little visitor to base camp today - a wood mouse - inspecting our work! #IrishCaveBones
/n Cave Day4: glorious morning here with sunshine and birds singing their little hearts out. Meanwhile cleaning back in the cave is going really well and revealing more and more cave sediment. #IrishCaveBones
/n First coffee break is always the best! This is how we do it…. Kelly Kettles are excellent to boil water fast. Freshly hand ground Lavazza Rossa coffee beans and spring water from a well - chef’s kiss ! 😁#coffee #IrishCaveBones
/n end of Day4…. Glorious day today. I even had to resort to putting Factor 50+ on my face, but forgot my hands (sunburnt)- am too fair for Irish sun! But excavation going well - there is cave sediment so that’s good. #IrishCaveBones
/n Cave Day5: Brisk start to the morning on site with sun trying to break through. Chilly breeze and the trench digging has started! Coffee break will be welcome later! #IrishCaveBones
/n Our on site toilet facilities are on a hill, with beautiful views of surrounds. A bit windy and refreshing! But worth the short walk …. for both reasons 😜😁 #IrishCaveBones
@Ruthfcarden A loo with a view.
