From what analytics are public, I'm pretty sure Apple News and other apps are way bigger drivers of traffic than Twitter, but it's an outlet with a huge journalist sphere and raised importance to their minds because of it. Going viral there is very visible, and more importantly it's visible to that *everyone*. LeBron James might see a journalists viral story there, whereas he probably wouldn't if it hit the top page of reddit.
