a few years ago the big social apps starting ripping off tiktok. Here I try to take stock of where that led them https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/04/why-every-app-now-feels-like-tiktok-but-worse.html
@jwherrman The Worst TikTok Clones that just do not make any sense: The Music streamer Spotify. They are deploying the new UI to more and more users. Which has stark resemblance to TikTok. Instead of neatly grouped and sorted playlists you have a fullscreen feed of recommended Playlists. Fullscreen. With Video Playing. On a music streaming app....
@pungunner idk who thought it was a good idea to have that feed auto play music. Makes me wonder how they would feel if they walked into a library and every 5 seconds an open book was thrusted in your face before you were able to get to the shelves.

@st33fo
(You can mute the feeds Autoplay)
The sad thing is that you cannot even get to the shelves. "You listen what we recommend you, you explicitly search for, or you painstakingly collect yourself" no more simple overview to things you listened to, things that may be similar or things over people listen to right now.

In my opinion it is to force people to depend on the algorithm more. To open the way to promotion based revenue streams. Where everyone expect spotify looses...

@pungunner I need to mute that soon. But yeah, it's hard to get in the minds and thoughts behind these decisions. Putting aside competing platforms. We'll see how far they take us with these features.
