Amazon's CEO made $212.7 million in compensation in 2021 while the typical worker received $32,855.

That's a ratio of 6,474 to 1.

Now we learn that the company spent $14 million on anti-union consultants...

Don't tell me that Amazon can't afford to let workers join a union.

@rbreich Ah, the wonders of capitalism and a corrupt government.

@rbreich

$8.83 per employee per year to keep the union away, whereas an extra dollar an hour for each of 1.6 million employees would come to 3.2 billion dollars per year, coming out of a net profit of at least 21 billion per year.

Amazon prime brings in $139 per year per member, and there are about 200 million members per year, worth about 27.8 billion.

Could bad publicity on this get a three million people to drop Amazon Prime?

@rbreich Two possible conclusions I can draw:

1. Mistreating their workers somehow saves Amazon more than $14 million.
2. It's not about the money and Amazon just enjoys mistreating its workers*

*it's always about the money

@rbreich Thats why I go out of my way to avoid Amazon. Viva la workers.
@rbreich but “oh no they’ll raise prices if they can’t make that much money”…wait, that’s not what they say…”oh they’ll raise prices if they pay employees more….”
@rbreich There should be a surtax on all companies whose CEO makes more than 100 times the average worker. Hell, even making it 1,000 times would still be a huge tax for some of these companies.
