What the fuck is this Microsoft? No. Stop it.
@mmasnick
Is Skype still a thing?
@hybridhavoc i still use it for phone calls

@mmasnick @hybridhavoc Same. I use it for international phone calls and the odd group call for when people don't have Discord.

I would pay more to have Skype that just did voice calls. I didn't like it when they experimented with being dollar store SnapChat a few years back, and this is even worse.

@mmasnick for ten bucks i cld block every single piece of traffic traversing their tld. like forever (ok, probably just 24 hrs, but then i cld do it again)

i mean, i won't because the legality is dubious, but this is quasi-trivial

@mmasnick "Ask me any type of question"

OK Bing, why don't you fuck off?

@motomatters @mmasnick indeed, "rhetorical" is a type of question

@vance_maverick @mmasnick Or is it?

I'm sorry. I'll get my coat.

@motomatters @mmasnick YES. My thoughts exactly. A fucking stupid talking paper clip that wants to take over the world.
@mmasnick It is the Next Gen Clippy of course, I'm sure it will go over MUCH better than the original.... {sarcasm}

@JamesV1971 @mmasnick

I hear Clippy is now in the personal sanitation business…

@mmasnick It could be worse. It could be Clippy. But it's still not good. Bing was bad enough in its old incarnation!
@mmasnick The Singularity consists of Clippy Mk2 annoying us endlessly in messages

@mmasnick This FEELS like a scam; like someone is actively trying to get people to type personal information into the chat so they can mine/use it. Like a scammer discovered that folks type their social security number into search engines and threw this out there to see if folks fell for it.

Are you sure this is Microsoft?

@cypherfox @mmasnick I'm pretty sure it's a legit Microsoft product. A podcaster I listen to, whose co-caster comes over Skype, has been complaining about this for about a week. (I hate Bing and don't use Skype so I haven't encountered this. DuckDuckGo is ugly but relatively private.)
@cypherfox yeah it is. it appears different from any other chat.
@mmasnick where is Clippy when you need them?
@mmasnick
Seriously microsoft barely does its job springboarding off of the same old stuff trying to make things less prone to error and here's this new garbage where it's like this product definitely gives you wrong answers
@mmasnick Bing, please dig up Real Clippy and have it delete all of your source code.
@mmasnick How long before this thing starts appearing on car touchscreens? "I see you'd like to apply the brakes. Would you like me to write a haiku about that?"
@mmasnick lol yeah. And if you DO reply to it, it just tells you you haven’t signed up yet and it can’t respond to you. I immediately blocked the bot
@mmasnick I asked it why I should use conversational search. It returned some BS about being better for voice searching. Talking to computers has been a sci-fi trope for decades, but despite the recognition being better than ever, does ANYBODY use it when there's literally any other choice?
@mmasnick this isn't going to work for me. I still have Clippy showing up to creep me out when I'm stuck in stress dreams.
@mmasnick @jon_harbert As annoying as “Clipy” … I hated that friggin paperclip.
@Porpentina2017 @mmasnick @jon_harbert You would think Microsoft would have learned from Bob and Clippy, apparently not.
@elfin @mmasnick @jon_harbert Bwaaahahahhahahaha .. add their phones you’ve got a list of fail. Oh, this ChatGPT is going to be great .. yeah, not so much. This MEME is old, but IMHO still very appropriate.
I pity any product team at Microsoft that is perceived by exec management to not have put lots of ChatGBP on its skin.

@mmasnick

I saw that as well a couple of days ago. The bot can be deleted from the list of chats.

Really scared the shit out of me when i first saw that.
